John Conrad Friedman, 79, of Stevensville, MD died at the University of Maryland Medical Center on August 6, 2012.
Born in Washington, DC on September 20, 1932, he was the son of the late John “Jack” Friedman and Virginia Walters Friedman. John had a wonderful career of 20 years as a D.C. Fireman. He had to retire after the D.C. Riots in 1968-69.
He finally resumed his hobby and love for horses. John was a Thoroughbred race horse trainer and breeder for 35 years and became very well known and successful after winning many big races with his horses. His wife, Virginia Friedman, is also his assistant and will continue and carry out his legacy.
John is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Friedman, after a wonderful, full and happy marriage of 58 years; his brother, Carl Ressa; a daughter, Teresa L. Godwin; his sons, Michael Friedman and Timothy McDonald Friedman; five grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.
John was well loved and will be missed.
Friends may call from 6-8 pm on Thursday, August 9 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 106 Shamrock Rd., Chester, MD.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 10 at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester, MD.
Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Queenstown, MD.
